Which authority accepts this translation?
The préfecture requires it for a naturalisation or residence permit application, the mairie for a marriage, and the CAF or social security office to open your entitlements. How many pages does a birth certificate usually run to?
Most birth certificates fit on a single side of paper. Some countries, such as Morocco or Algeria, issue multilingual extracts spread over two pages, which still falls within the standard rate as long as the translated content doesn't exceed one page.
Do I need to send the original certificate, or is a photo enough?
A clear photo or scan is more than enough — the paper original is never required for the translation. If you need the original returned by post stapled to the certified translation, that option is available for an extra €8.
What if the certificate includes marginal notes (marriage, divorce)?
Marginal notes added after the certificate was first issued, such as a marriage or divorce, are translated in full at the same rate. Just mention it when you place your order so the translator can factor them in without extending the turnaround time.
