Who asks for a certified translation of your degree
UCAS applications and university admissions offices usually ask for translated certificates and transcripts when the originals are not in English. UK ENIC normally needs the originals and a translation before it issues a statement of comparability. In the United States, universities and credential evaluators such as WES expect the same. Professional regulators, from medical councils to engineering institutes, and many NHS employers also request them. A degree from a British or American university may in turn need translating for a job or visa abroad.
What the translation reproduces
The degree certificate is translated line by line: institution, awarding body, exact title of the qualification, subject, classification or grade, date of award, registration number, seals and signatures. The translator never replaces the title with an assumed local equivalent; comparing qualifications is the job of UK ENIC or the university. The transcript is rebuilt as a table with course names, credits, marks and the overall average in the original system. A mark out of 100, out of 10 or a letter stays as printed, together with the grading scale if one is shown.
Files to send and common mistakes
Send both sides of the degree certificate, since the back often carries the registration number or an apostille. For a multi-page transcript, check that every page is complete and no column is cut off. Do not mix a provisional certificate with the final one. Many universities accept a certificate of completion while you wait, but credential evaluators usually prefer the final award. If only the last two years of a longer transcript are required, say so in the Additional information field.

Translate the whole record that is asked for, not just the last award. A master's degree without the bachelor's that precedes it often triggers a request for more papers. Ask your original university for an official stamped transcript instead of a printout from the student portal, which some offices reject.

A degree certificate on its own usually fits on one page, while a full transcript can run to several pages depending on the number of semesters covered. Every page is billed at the same rate, so the final quote depends on the number of pages you actually send us.
Do you need the original degree, or is a copy enough?
A legible scan or photo of the degree or transcript is all we need to produce the translation. The authority receiving the translation will almost always ask for a copy of the original alongside it, not the original itself.
Do diploma supplements or handwritten notes cause any issues?
The diploma supplement, stamps and handwritten notes added by the institution are all translated in full, including hard-to-read stamps, which are transcribed as accurately as possible. If something is genuinely illegible, the translator will note this in the translation rather than guess at it.
